Kawasaki has announced updates to its KX112 and KX85 youth motocross models for 2026. According to Kawasaki, the updated bikes feature enhanced suspension, more powerful brakes, redesigned frames, and improved ergonomics, all intended to provide a more 'big bike feel' for younger riders. The changes affect both the KX112 and KX85 models, with the primary difference remaining the engine displacement.

According to motorcycle.com, the KX85 is powered by an 85cc two-stroke engine, while the KX112 utilizes a 112cc two-stroke engine. Both engines are liquid-cooled and remain unchanged from the 2025 models. The KX65 was previously announced. These models are intended to offer a clear progression for young racers.

The KX85 will be available in a standard configuration with 17-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels, as well as an "L" version featuring larger 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels. The KX112 will also use the 19/16-inch wheel combination. Dunlop Geomax MX34 tires replace the previous MX33 tires as standard equipment, according to Kawasaki.

Suspension Upgrades

  • Both the KX112 and KX85 receive new 43mm KYB inverted forks, replacing the previous 36mm forks.
  • The new forks offer adjustable compression and rebound damping.
  • The outer tubes of the forks feature a Kashima coating for improved lubrication and reduced wear.
  • The fork design eliminates protrusions below the wheel axle to reduce ground contact during extreme lean angles.
  • The rear suspension now includes high-speed compression damping adjustment.
  • The monoshock features a larger 14mm shock rod and a longer 390mm cylinder, providing firmer damping and improved bottoming resistance, according to Kawasaki.

The Uni-Trak linkage system on the KX112 and KX85 L increases rear wheel travel from 10.8 inches to 12.0 inches, motorcycle.com reports. The standard KX85 retains 10.8 inches of rear wheel travel.

Braking and Frame Enhancements

  • The braking system has been upgraded with larger rotors: 240mm front and 220mm rear, compared to the previous 220mm/184mm setup.
  • The Nissin front calipers now use dual 25mm pistons and the master cylinder from the KX250.
  • Kawasaki has tightened the rear brake pedal stroke for more precise control.
  • The high-tensile perimeter frames have been revised, with a 25mm extension of the steering head pipe to increase front-end rigidity.
  • Aluminum parts now replace steel handlebars, steering stems, and rear sprockets.

According to Kawasaki, the 2026 KX112 has a curb weight of 172.8 pounds, compared to 169.7 pounds for the 2025 model. The KX85 weighs in at 168.4 pounds (up from 164.4 pounds), while the KX85 L weighs 172.4 pounds.

Ergonomics and Styling

  • The youth models' styling is inspired by Kawasaki’s full-sized motocross bikes.
  • The bodywork features a flat-topped fuel tank.
  • A flat and slender seat allows for freedom of movement.
  • Side covers offer flush seams.
  • New aluminum Renthal Fatbar handlebars are wider and positioned further forward.
  • Handlebar position is adjustable with eight different configurations.
  • Footpegs have been lowered by 10mm and are wider.

The 2026 Kawasaki KX112, K85, and K85 L are expected to be available in dealerships in February, all in a Lime Green color. Pricing starts at $4,999 for the KX85, $5,199 for the KX85 L, and $5,749 for the KX112, according to motorcycle.com.
