Ducati's Hypermotard has always been about one thing: unfiltered fun. According to Sylvia Houston at Motorcycle.com, the 2026 Ducati Hypermotard V2 SP aims to sharpen that focus with a lighter, more powerful, and more sophisticated package. After a first ride at the Autodromo di Modena in Italy, Houston reports that Ducati may have created the most fun Hypermotard yet.
The Hypermotard V2 SP represents the fourth generation of the model, and Ducati has made significant changes beyond just cosmetic updates. The previous 950 platform has been replaced with a new technical base centered around Ducati’s 890cc V-Twin engine and a newly designed monocoque chassis. The V2 SP is the fifth Ducati model to utilize this engine platform, according to Motorcycle.com.
Here's a closer look at what makes the 2026 Hypermotard V2 SP stand out:
- Engine: The 890cc V-Twin engine is a highlight, producing a claimed 120 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 94 Nm of torque at 8,250 rpm (at the crankshaft). Ducati claims this is their lightest twin-cylinder engine ever, weighing in at just 119.9 lbs. Houston notes the engine's flexibility, with strong low-end torque and a willingness to rev.
- Ducati IVT: The engine uses Ducati’s intake variable timing (IVT) system to optimize intake timing, enhancing low-end torque and broadening the mid-range power.
- Weight Reduction: Ducati claims the V2 SP is 30.8 lbs lighter than the previous 950 SP, with a claimed weight (excluding fuel) of 390.2 lb.
- Chassis: The Hypermotard V2 SP features a monocoque frame that integrates the engine as a stressed member and serves as the airbox. A steel trellis subframe pays homage to the original Hypermotard, while an aluminum double-sided swingarm, inspired by the Panigale V4, adds rigidity.
Houston noted the bike's agility and responsiveness on the Autodromo di Modena, a tight and technical circuit. The wide handlebars and supermoto-style riding position provide ample leverage for quick direction changes and easy mid-corner corrections. Ducati aimed to make the new chassis more neutral and intuitive, a goal that Houston says is evident after a few laps.
The Hypermotard V2 SP also offers a degree of adjustability and usability. The standard seat height is 34.6 inches, providing a commanding supermoto stance. A low accessory seat is available, reducing the seat height to 34.1 inches.
The move to traditional valve springs also marks a significant step in service intervals, though the exact figures were not specified in the Motorcycle.com first ride review.
Overall, the 2026 Ducati Hypermotard V2 SP appears to be a significant step forward for the Hypermotard line, offering a lighter, more powerful, and more refined riding experience.
